About the Role
Walgreens is seeking a dedicated Shift Lead to oversee store operations in the absence of management. This role involves opening and closing the store, managing cash handling, ensuring store readiness, and providing exceptional customer service. The Shift Lead will also play a key part in operational tasks such as inventory management, visual merchandising, and ensuring compliance with company policies and local regulations.
Responsibilities
- Assume responsibility for store opening and closing procedures, including system startups and secure cash handling, in the absence of store management.
- Facilitate the opening of the back door for incoming deliveries.
- Process customer returns, order cancellations, and refunds, and manage cash drops and register change requests.
- Champion a positive customer experience by actively engaging shoppers, offering assistance, and resolving issues effectively.
- Mentor team members on best practices for customer service, emphasizing proactive engagement and ensuring customer satisfaction.
- Oversee daily operations, including key holding responsibilities for store access.
- Support and train team members on the warehouse and vendor ordering processes, from order creation to receiving, including managing vendor deliveries.
- Accurately record all sales transactions, including details of scanning errors, price checks, unlisted items, price adjustments, and voids.
- Assist management in reviewing order discrepancies and managing reverse logistics, such as returns and empty package processing.
- Contribute to the development and execution of product displays, including promotional, seasonal, and sale merchandise, and complete store resets and revisions.
- Maintain precise inventory counts and ensure the accuracy of on-hand stock levels across all store areas, including the stockroom and overstock.
- Ensure adherence to the Outdate program by all team members.
- Manage basic department pricing, execute daily price changes, and ensure correct signage is displayed to reflect accurate pricing.
- Complete any additional pricing tasks required by local regulations or compliance programs accurately and on time.
- Assist with bookkeeping duties, including cash reports, counts, ledgers, and bill payments as needed.
- Contribute to maintaining a clean, organized, and visually appealing store environment, and report any necessary system or store repairs.
- Follow proper procedures for separating food items and stocking products, utilizing the first-in, first-out method for perishable goods and restocking depleted items.
- Demonstrate proficiency with store systems and equipment.
- Provide support at the Pharmacy window when required.
- Ensure strict compliance with all state and local laws pertaining to regulated products like alcohol and tobacco.
- Conduct team member bag checks before departure.
- Uphold all company policies and procedures and foster respectful working relationships.
- Undertake special assignments and other duties as directed.
Requirements
- A minimum of one year of experience in a leadership, supervisory, or key holder role within a retail environment.
- Proficiency in English, including reading, writing, and speaking.
- Familiarity with store inventory control systems is preferred.
- Willingness to obtain and maintain valid PTCB certification or a pharmacy license as mandated by the state, if applicable.
- Must be eligible to work in the specified location.
