Job description
Role overview
Maynooth University’s Department of Media Studies is recruiting a Technical Officer to support teaching, learning, and hands-on technical practice across the department. Reporting to the Head of Department, the postholder will work closely with the Senior University Tutor and lecturing staff to keep media teaching and production activities running smoothly.
This is a cross-disciplinary role that combines audiovisual support, digital systems knowledge, and practical IT skills. The successful candidate will assist with the delivery of modules including Short Film, Documentary, Radio Production, and TV Studio, and will also help supervise and support final-year student projects.
The role covers the management of equipment, facilities, and technical resources, as well as the delivery of inductions and training for staff and students. The postholder will work in partnership with academic colleagues and students on module delivery and creative work, while also taking responsibility for the Media Lab, which serves as equipment storage and a workspace for staff and researcher audiovisual practice. In addition, the role involves liaising with the University’s IT Services to maintain, integrate, and support digital infrastructure and systems.
A key part of the job is helping the department stay up to date by identifying new technologies and contributing to the long-term development of media facilities and resources. The Technical Officer will play a central role in ensuring that media technologies, specialist labs, and dedicated spaces remain operational, well used, and forward-looking.
