Role Summary
The Assistant Project Manager supports the Project Manager or Senior Project Manager by handling assigned project tasks and helping keep work moving smoothly. This entry-level APM role is intended to build hands-on knowledge of construction processes and commercial jobsite operations.
The role may span one or multiple projects of varying size, duration, and complexity. Day-to-day focus includes coordination, communication, documentation, equipment ordering, and schedule support so that project goals are met while following company policies, ethical standards, and operating procedures.
Responsibilities
- Coordinate with field teams, clients, subcontractors, and vendors to keep project work aligned.
- Build working relationships with foremen, superintendents, customers, engineers, general contractors, and subcontractors.
- Carry out assigned duties according to company standards and procedures.
- Support one or several projects and, in some cases, manage smaller jobs.
- Work with leadership on a personal development plan.
- Develop knowledge of the local construction market.
- Build technical understanding of mechanical and plumbing systems, codes, standards, and company construction practices.
- Maintain current drawing sets in ACC Build or the project folder.
- Create procurement and submittal logs using equipment matrices and specifications.
- Compile, package, issue, and track submittals.
- Save, record, and manage RFIs.
- Process purchase orders and keep procurement logs current.
- Distribute submittal, RFI, and procurement logs.
- Coordinate journal adjustments with the Project Accountant.
- Set up and monitor per diem or subsistence payments.
- Collect and assemble closeout documentation.
- Work with Site Safety to understand audit outcomes and strengthen jobsite safety awareness.
- Gain exposure to BIM and detailing workflows.
- Understand how construction schedules are built and used.
- Draft subcontracts.
- Track startup, installation verification, and pre-commissioning forms as needed.
- Create RFIs when necessary, including sketches and marked-up contract documents, plans, and submittals.
- Prepare submittal packages and verify them against drawings and building standards.
- Draft equipment purchase orders and validate them against drawings, submittals, quotes, and building standards.
- Review drawing revisions and identify possible scope impacts.
- Maintain project budgets, revise budgets, and update change order logs.
- Gain exposure to estimating fundamentals, including takeoffs, conceptual estimating, and change order drafting.
- Learn how to prepare and present monthly financial reports such as ECAC and stats.
- Visit assigned job sites on a regular basis.
Requirements
- Experience with tools such as ACC Build, Microsoft Office, Bluebeam Revu, D365, or comparable systems is preferred.
- Strong written and verbal communication ability is required.
- Good time management and organization skills are needed.
- Ability to work quickly and with a strong sense of urgency.
- Must be able to build trust and maintain strong professional relationships with customers and internal partners.
- Professional presentation, grooming, conduct, and business attire are expected.
- Role may require full-time site presence, including before or after scheduled project hours, depending on project needs.
- Work location and schedule flexibility will depend on project requirements and supervisor direction.
- Must be able to walk and keep balance on rough, icy, or muddy ground.
- Must be able to climb stairs and ladders.
- Must be comfortable working safely at heights.
- Must be able to work outdoors in varying weather conditions for extended periods.
- Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Business, or Engineering is preferred.
- Equivalent education and experience may be accepted.
- A combination of trade experience and education showing readiness for APM I responsibilities will also be considered.

Additional Information
Compensation for this role is estimated at $65,000 to $85,000 annually, depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
